Any suggestions how a modern 240z should look like? (Here's a speedpaint for your thoughts)

It for sure needs to have a long hood and short back like the original.

To keep it close to the original one, classic GT proportions are a must, that’s for sure!

cheat......... use the 370z to start, stretch the nose(ahead of windscreen and ahead of front tires). change the headlights, and bumper(or the peaky front end) add the character line in the middle, change the contour of the rear panel that has the tail lights, add the louvered rear window. move the mirrors all the way up the fenders, and find an inline 6 for it. original stripes.

very nearly what you already had.

I have an orange 71' and I think the 370 is a pretty nice looking modern generation. So much better than the 350.

I am more biased into making something that harkens back to the original spirit, than to pull off a retro-modern 240z... Love the japanese version wing mounted mirrors though, that was one of the cues I am playing with!

i havent had a chance to drive the 370, but the 350, with a manual, has so much pep. the 370 does at least look better, stays truer to the classic styling.

seen the pictures you had posted of the 71. tough break on the parking lot rash...... hows the repairs on it coming along??

So, what would you improve in your 370z and what does make it better than the 350? The 370 is a bit more muscular, definitely!

Crazy, you say?! Maybe take the cues of the DB11 and set them to a Vantage size, then Nissan-ify it just working the front and rear.

I don’t have a 370 but I have tried one, I have a 1971 240Z. I think the 370 is sleek like the original, some people like the 350 but I think it’s not a graceful car like the Z was. We have to remember the original Z was tapping into things like the Ferrari GTO long nose short hatch look and the Jaaaags among others, even Shelby had the Daytona to try and get that shape... There are plenty of cars that looked somewhat like a Z in the 60's before the Z came along to be a cheaper but fun alternative. If I had to change anything on the 370 I would try other tail and headlights out and I do hate the 350/370 mechanical door handle. I think the handle should be flush to the body and have a reach behind tab to keep the sleek body flowing. I don’t like how the dash in the new cars is so big and in your face. In my 71' you can see well, I think Honda has done dashes with good visibility, I wish Nissan would improve that. I felt like I was driving behind a wall. See how the cockpit seems to creep higher towards the front, it should stay low. Other than that I think the 370 is an excellent modern take on the 240Z.

the current 370 does a pretty good job of using styling cues of the original. just saying you might steal the greenhouse of it, and insert MORE “spirit”, something akin to a caricature.

Yes, proportion-wise is as close as modern safety regs and platform hard points will allow it... I’ll try to make it appear a bit longer and lower since as you said, it is a bit higher and shorter than both E type and 2000gt, however I guess that for me is quite easy since the only constraint I have is that I see it right... I would love to add some crease in the rear fender that continues the belt line in the 240.

It does look really nice, specially the engine bay seems like you kept it as clean as possible... it’s regularly driven every weekend isn’t it?

Well, I am not sure if we are on the same page! You mean like a restomod, or just exaggerating current 370z’s cues?

Those Astons are gorgeous cars, but are waaay longer so that helps with proportions, normally when you try to shoehorn a design into a shorter wheelbase it ends up looking pretty ungainly, and moreover the roof line in the Zs is a bit more rounded and falls more abruptly, so I am not quite sure that would work. However, is true that when the 240Z came out part of the appeal was that it looked quite like some nice exotics that cost way more, so I guess that I should start by looking out nowadays’ exotics ;)

Yeah I try to drive it out somewhere as much as I can. I can’t take it to work in the city.

it would be like what the current challenger and mustang and camaro have done. .......... not a restomod, where you take an old car and update it. and not a clean sheet creation...... its taking a known quantity, the current 370z. and use the greenhouse.(basically the doors, windscreen, b pillars cpillars, roof) they are the already accepted current version(look a lot like the originals)......... then from there, to the current greenhouse, you add an exaggerated version of the ORIGINAL 240z features, like the extended hood, the peaky nose, hood, and tunneled headlights, the contoured rear fascia that houses the sunken taillights, the fender mirrors, but in a stylized and idealized layout....................
